Girls Home Sewing Centre - microfinance scheme
In 2010, HELP acquired 5 Singer sewing machines for the Amman Mahaleer girls home and paid for teachers to provide training in dress making and sewing for the older girls and single mothers in the village. This project has been an unqualified success and in 2011 we established a small microfinance loan scheme which enabled the girls leaving the Home and the mothers in the village to buy their own machines. The loans are fully performing and we have recently lent a further Rps 600,000 to 20 more girls to start up their businesses. This scheme is providing an invaluable livelihood to these young ladies.
